JumpYard welcomes SVT’s review of safety in trampoline parks

Questions and answers about our security work

On December 5, SVT broadcast a report on safety in Swedish trampoline parks.

The report highlighted that the Swedish Consumer Agency has criticized our safety work in relation to a specific climbing attraction in 2021 and has demanded that JumpYard pay a fine.

JumpYard disagrees with this assessment and will respond to the Administrative Court, which will decide on the matter.

The safety of our visitors is our top priority, and we are constantly working to improve safety in all areas of our parks. We welcome reviews of trampoline parks, as this helps us to become even better.

Fundamentally, all inspections of us by the Swedish consumer authorities are about ensuring that our trampoline parks are safe for our visitors. In this respect, we and the Swedish consumer authorities have the same goal. However, we do not share the Swedish consumer authorities’ assessment that we have been negligent in our work with the climbing attraction. We will also respond to this in the administrative court, and we look forward to their decision in the case.

Safety is our top priority. Everyone who works in the parks is trained in safety, and we have a systematic approach to safety. The most important thing is that all visitors follow our safety rules, as this enables us to prevent almost all injuries.

Our rules are, in short:

  • Only one person per trampoline.
  • Avoid the edge protection.
  • Always land on your back or bottom in the foam pit and airbag.
  • Only perform tricks and somersaults that you can handle.
  • Do not run in the park.

Wherever children and young people play and engage in sports, there is a risk of injury. We therefore have clear safety rules, which we inform all visitors about. The rules are posted at all attractions in the park. Unfortunately, visitors do not always follow the rules, which increases the risk of accidents.

In general, it can be said that the younger the guest, the fewer and less serious the injuries. When it comes to serious injuries, adult men are overrepresented.

The most common injury is guests spraining their ankles when stepping or landing on the edge protection. Until September this year, there have been 92 injuries in the company’s Swedish parks, 73 of which were on trampolines where guests needed medical attention. During the same period, guests have jumped for a total of 1,200,000 hours.

When someone is injured, we record and analyze where it happened, how it happened, and what the consequences were. We do this because we want to learn how to prevent something similar from happening again. We are constantly changing and improving our parks to make them even safer.

JumpYard works with safety in several different ways:
We follow standards, carry out checks, have employees who focus on safety, and provide information about safety rules.

This is how we work with this:

We follow standards
We follow an international ISO standard for how trampoline parks should be designed, operated, and maintained. A standard that we have helped develop together with the Swedish Consumer Agency, global suppliers, and trampoline park chains. When an activity does not meet our safety requirements, we replace it, even in cases where it meets the standard.

We carry out inspections
In addition to daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance, our equipment is inspected annually by an external inspection company to ensure that it complies with the global ISO standard.

Our employees focus on safety
All our employees are trained in safety issues. Half of our approximately 450 employees in Sweden work directly with safety and monitoring of the activity area and guests. They inform guests about safety rules and identify risks.

Most others work indirectly with safety by informing guests about the safety rules in the park. In addition, we have five full-time employees who work systematically to identify improvements in safety and training.

We provide information about safety rules
Our park rules are one of our primary safety tools. They are posted in our parks and presented to all visitors.

Injuries are rare, especially in the airbag attraction and our climbing attractions. During the year up to September, we had three injuries where guests needed medical attention in the airbag attraction and one in the climbing attraction in all parks across the country.

It is always sad when someone gets hurt. We try to get everyone to follow the safety rules because we know that this is the best way to reduce the risk of injuries.
